2004 marked the fifth year of existence for the Greyrock Writers' Festival. The first Institute focused on educational efforts related to the graduate programs in the English department at Colorado State University. The second and third Institutes shifted focus to a community-based celebration of literacy in the Rocky Mountain West. The fourth Institute continued that shift with an expanded range of workshops, longer weekend workshop, and an evening workshop that extended across multiple days.
