The Contemplative Writer: Slowing Down to See What's Already There

Brother Lawrence was a 17th-century monk who advocated "practicing the presence" of God in everyday acts-eating a meal, weeding the garden, washing the dishes. Lawrence's work reminds us that "slowing down" both precedes and accompanies craft, for it is here that we access the real and weighty presence in our own writing. In this workshop, writers will learn the craft of slowing down as they consider the strengths of their own writing, the wealth of their own experiences, and the wisdom they can gain from other writers. This workshop will help writers explore processes they can use to see what is already there.
