Crossing Genres Into (Creating a Poetic) Memoir

Jill DarlingCan memory be recorded? How accurate is memory? If one is not recording events as they occur, can one record events accurately? When one does record remembered events, do they then become "true" whether or not they are accurate? If memory itself is faulty, can we as writers "invent" our own (or others') memoirs? This workshop will look at different ways memoir is/has been created across genres. We will talk about different types of poetic and other devices we can use to explore and create our own poetic memoirs, be they real or invented.

Jill Darling is in process of finishing her M.F.A. degree in creative writing at CSU. She has had poems published in Upstairs at Duroc and for the local Poetry in Motion project.
